Conventional Clarifiers

Reliable gravity clarification that settles coagulated solids out of water and wastewater — the proven workhorse for large, steady flows.

Proven settling for large, steady flows

When flows are large and solids will settle, a well-designed gravity clarifier is the simplest, lowest-energy way to produce clear water. CWG builds circular and tube-settler clarifiers for water works, municipal and heavy-industrial applications — as primary, secondary or tertiary stages.

The Technology

What is a conventional clarifier?

A conventional clarifier uses gravity to separate suspended solids from water. After coagulation and flocculation form dense flocs, the water enters a large tank where flocs settle to the bottom as sludge.

Clarified water overflows from the top while a slow-moving rake collects and withdraws the settled sludge from the floor for further handling.

Tube- or plate-settler internals can be added to increase the effective settling area, letting a smaller tank handle the same flow.

The Process

How a clarifier works

Coagulated water enters a quiescent tank where solids settle out under gravity and clear water overflows.

1

Coagulation

Coagulant destabilises fine suspended particles so they can join together.

2

Flocculation

Gentle mixing grows the particles into larger, heavier flocs.

3

Sedimentation

In the still clarifier zone, flocs settle to the floor as sludge.

4

Sludge Removal

A rake sweeps settled sludge to a central hopper for withdrawal, while clear water overflows.

Advantages

Why industries choose CWG

How It Compares

Clarifier vs other separation

vs DAF

Best where solids settle readily and flows are large; DAF suits light or oily solids.

vs Sand Filtration

Removes the bulk of solids first, protecting and extending downstream filters.

vs Membrane Separation

A far lower-cost first stage for high solids loads before fine polishing.

Local Relevance

Why clarifiers matter for Pakistan

For water utilities and large process industries, gravity clarification remains the most economical first step in producing clear water — low-energy, dependable and easy to operate at the scale Pakistani infrastructure needs.
